Pump up your saving, save fuel
With petrol prices hitting record levels, using less fuel can mean big savings. Try these tips:
- Fill up in the morning since it’s cooler there’s less evaporation.
- Screw the cap tightly to prevent fuel loss via evaporation or spillage.
- Lighten up. Do you really need to lug all that clutter? Transporting heavy weight can burn 10 percent more fuel.
- Have your car serviced regularly. A poorly maintained car uses up to 25 percent more fuel.
- Drive off right after starting, but at low speed. The engine will warm up faster and lubricate better, improving fuel efficiency.
- Keep an eye on speed. The most fuel-effiecient speed is between 75km and 90km per hour.
