General Outline
Marley & Me, a nonfiction book about a Labrador Retriever that shaped the life of a family, continues to touch many hearts and make many tears fall as it is read by both young adults and elders alike. The story revolves around a naughty and mischievous dog named Marley, who helps his owner, John Grogan, and Jenny (John’s wife) understand the true feelings of a family with fulfilled wishes.

John Grogan first took Marley home when he was just a puppy—Marley was not house broken or trained at all. There were many frustrating moments that John and Jenny had to face when they first got Marley, and there were arguments about the dog when they first had some problems with his phobia of lightning. Marley, which they often called a “bad dog,” learned his lessons, but continued to be cunning and sneaky. As he aged, he had a harder time hearing and understanding his owners. Even so, he did not stop being the naughty dog he was. Since his hearing deteriorated over the years, he did not notice John creep up behind him, catching him snack on a grilled cheese sandwich!

Review
NOTE: This may contain spoilers

Marley & Me is a book that has and will continue to touch many people’s hearts. This book is most suitable for those of you that love dogs. It will bring a smile to your face and tears to your cheeks.

There are so many touching and laughing moments in this book. You can laugh at how Marley can be very silly, to the point where he’s chasing baby diapers; and cry over the moment Marley was euthanized. When you reread the book, you’ll find that you won’t be able to stop. (I myself have read this book 5 times already.) John Grogan will keep you hooked.

This nonfiction book is written by an experienced journalist who describes how Marley shaped his family’s life. There are some mature scenes in this book that are not suitable for ages twelve and under.
