Lucky Water Margin Chinese Knot Instructions

This is our first article with full instructions to create a chinese knot hanger. This knot is a base knot and is known by many names. I just call it the lucky water margin chinese knot as the bulky pear form reminds me of a water margin often used in chinese legends.

Naturally, it’s charm comes form the hanging flocks making it ideal to be used as a keychain, decoration or simply… just for fun.

Without further ado, the instructions:

Materials used:

1 X 60cm No. 4 thread (to create the double money loop)
1 X 90cm No. 4 thread (to hang the finishing design)
1 X 75cm No. 3 thread (to create a double money loop)

800 feet 1 X 90cm Gold thread
Two tassels
Instructions

NOTE: For clarity, different coloured threads have been used for the instructions. Refer to the base chinese knotting instructions if you need help.

1 – First use a no. 4 thread 60cm and make a double money knot

2 – Follow the start of the thread one more time

3 – Using a chopstick (a pen will also suffice) push through the middle and pull tight to create a sphere

4 – Thread the gold thread in between the two threads.

5 – Using a no. 3 thread, repeat the same steps to create a double money loop

6 – Using a thread to hang, tie a double linked knot

7 – Thread the smaller and bigger double money loops

8 – At the bottom tie a button knot

9 – Add the two tassels

10 – snip off the excess, finished.
