Lucky Water Margin Chinese Knot Instructions
This is our first article with full instructions to create a chinese knot hanger. This knot is a base knot and is known by many names. I just call it the lucky water margin chinese knot as the bulky pear form reminds me of a water margin often used in chinese legends.
Naturally, it’s charm comes form the hanging flocks making it ideal to be used as a keychain, decoration or simply… just for fun.
Without further ado, the instructions:
Materials used:
1 X 60cm No. 4 thread (to create the double money loop)
1 X 90cm No. 4 thread (to hang the finishing design)
1 X 75cm No. 3 thread (to create a double money loop)
800 feet 1 X 90cm Gold thread
Two tassels
Instructions
NOTE: For clarity, different coloured threads have been used for the instructions. Refer to the base chinese knotting instructions if you need help.

1 – First use a no. 4 thread 60cm and make a double money knot
2 – Follow the start of the thread one more time
3 – Using a chopstick (a pen will also suffice) push through the middle and pull tight to create a sphere
4 – Thread the gold thread in between the two threads.
5 – Using a no. 3 thread, repeat the same steps to create a double money loop

6 – Using a thread to hang, tie a double linked knot
7 – Thread the smaller and bigger double money loops
8 – At the bottom tie a button knot
9 – Add the two tassels
10 – snip off the excess, finished.
