Failure of an Early Vow

Almost everyone has a desire to get married. It’s a stage one is expected to enter after reaching a certain age. People who do not marry often become victims of pity and ridicule. But desire alone is not enough to make a marriage successful. One must be prepared for the responsibilities involved with marriage. One of the common reasons that a marriage ends in divorce is due to early marriage.

Very few teenage marriages survive because emotional maturity is a prime requisite. A person who is emotionally mature is more likely to get along with others, to obtain and keep a job, to accept responsibility, and to face the realities of a married life.

These days, many teenagers get married without understanding the meaning and obligations of bringing up a family. Individuals under the age of 20 are still undergoing some biological and psychological shifts, and as their bodies mature and their personalities adjust to adult life, their needs also shift and change.

In the teenage years, adolescents are still trying to discover their identities. As such, they are hardly ready to commit themselves to a long term love;they may also be emotionally immature to meet the demands of a marital relationship.

Other factors contributing to the high failure rate among teenage marriages include:

-Insufficient financial resources.
-Marriages based on physical attraction and/or romance.
-Pre-marital pregnancy.
-Marrying to escape problems.
-The couple not really knowing each other.
-A lack of understanding responsibilities.

An early marriage might cause the children to marry early as well. This means that the children might commit the same mistakes as their young parents. Therefore, young people should select their partners in life with due regard to the important requisites of a happy and enduring union, or much better, marry at a mature age. Before making such a momentous choice, the advice of parents and other sensible people of experience should be sought.
